GTM Engineering has moved from an emerging niche to one of the most competitive hiring markets in European SaaS. At BisonRS, GTM Engineering placements have grown 120% year-on-year since 2024, and salary expectations have moved with the demand. This guide sets out what GTM Engineers actually earn in 2026 — in London, across the UK regions, and in the major European markets — and what hiring managers should budget for base, bonus, and equity.

What does a GTM Engineer do?

A GTM Engineer builds custom technical solutions for go-to-market problems — data pipelines, bespoke integrations, automation that goes beyond what Zapier or Workato can handle, and internal tooling like deal scoring models and pipeline health dashboards. Where a RevOps Manager configures existing platforms, a GTM Engineer writes code: Python and SQL day to day, with dbt, Snowflake, and API development in the toolkit.

The role is distinct from traditional Revenue Operations, though the two overlap and the best teams have both. For a full breakdown of how the roles differ, when you need each, and how to structure a team that combines them, read our guide to GTM Engineering vs RevOps. This article focuses on what the market pays.

GTM Engineer salaries in the UK

The UK bands below reflect base salary only. London sets the top of the market; regional UK roles — Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol, and the remote-first companies hiring nationally — typically pay 10–15% below London equivalents, though fully remote roles at London-headquartered scale-ups increasingly pay London rates regardless of location.

LevelLondon (GBP)Regional UK (GBP)
GTM Engineer (mid)£65,000–£90,000£58,000–£78,000
Senior GTM Engineer£85,000–£115,000£75,000–£100,000
GTM Engineering Lead£105,000–£140,000£92,000–£122,000

These ranges run 15–25% above equivalent RevOps Manager salaries at the same level of seniority. That premium is not a temporary spike — it reflects the additional engineering skills the role demands, and we have seen it hold steady even as the candidate pool has slowly grown.

Where a candidate lands within a band depends on three things: depth of engineering skill (a candidate who can deploy production-grade pipelines commands more than one who writes ad hoc scripts), the sophistication of the stack they have worked with, and evidence of commercial impact — pipeline built, forecast accuracy improved, hours of manual work eliminated.

GTM Engineer salaries across Europe

European GTM Engineering salaries follow the same regional patterns we see across the wider RevOps market, with the DACH region and the Nordics paying above UK benchmarks and Southern Europe well below.

RegionBenchmark vs UKNotes
DACH10–20% above UKMid: €70,000–€95,000; Senior: €90,000–€125,000; Lead: €110,000–€150,000. Zurich pays at the very top of these ranges; Berlin at the lower end.
Nordics~15% above UKStockholm and Copenhagen lead the region. Strong data engineering talent pools mean more competition from product engineering employers.
BeneluxBroadly in line with UKAmsterdam is the region's GTM Engineering hub and sits at the upper end; total cost of employment is affected by the 30% ruling for international hires.
Southern Europe25–30% below Northern EuropeSpain, Portugal, and Italy. Increasingly used as remote hiring markets by Northern European companies, which is putting upward pressure on local bands.

Two dynamics are worth flagging for anyone hiring across borders. First, remote hiring is compressing regional differences: a Senior GTM Engineer in Lisbon being courted by a London or Amsterdam scale-up will not accept a full Southern European discount. Second, the DACH premium is most pronounced for candidates with German-language fluency and local CRM compliance experience — English-only remote candidates tend to price closer to UK bands.

The BisonRS salary benchmarking tool covers the GTM Engineer role across the UK, DACH, the Nordics, Benelux, France, and Southern Europe if you want a band calibrated to your specific market and stage.

What drives the premium

GTM Engineers out-earn their RevOps peers for one structural reason: the profile is genuinely scarce. The role demands real engineering ability — not just formula-level spreadsheet skills — combined with fluency in pipeline stages, attribution, lead scoring, and revenue metrics. Software engineers with that commercial context are rare; RevOps professionals with production-grade coding skills are rarer still. Companies are effectively bidding for the intersection of two talent pools.

The tooling expectations have also risen. In 2026, a competitive GTM Engineer profile typically includes:

  • Clay and similar automation platforms for outbound and enrichment workflows
  • dbt and Snowflake (or BigQuery) for transformation and warehousing
  • Python and advanced SQL — window functions, CTEs, and production-quality scripting
  • API development — building and consuming RESTful integrations between CRM, billing, and product systems
  • AI workflow tooling — orchestrating LLM-powered enrichment, routing, and research steps inside GTM processes

That last category is where the sharpest premiums sit. Candidates with demonstrable agentic AI experience — building autonomous or semi-autonomous workflows that research accounts, draft outreach, or triage inbound at scale — are commanding offers at the top of the bands above, and occasionally beyond them. Every hiring manager we work with is asking for this skill set; very few candidates can genuinely evidence it yet.

Total compensation: bonus and equity

Base salary is only part of the picture, and GTM Engineering packages increasingly mirror those of senior RevOps hires.

Bonus. A performance bonus of 10–20% of base is typical. Because GTM Engineers sit close to revenue, bonuses are usually tied to a mix of company performance and delivery milestones — shipped infrastructure, adoption of internal tooling — rather than direct quota attainment.

Equity. At venture-backed scale-ups, equity is a standard component of the offer, and it matters more for this profile than most: GTM Engineers frequently field offers from product engineering teams where equity is table stakes. Later-stage companies competing without meaningful equity generally need to compensate at the top of the base salary bands to close candidates.

When benchmarking an offer, compare total compensation rather than base alone. A £95,000 base with 15% bonus and a credible equity grant will beat a £105,000 flat base for most senior candidates weighing two offers.

Hiring and retention advice

A few practical observations from running GTM Engineering searches across Europe.

Expect counter-offers, and plan for them. Employers know how hard this profile is to replace, and counter-offer rates for GTM Engineers are among the highest we see in the RevOps market. Move quickly between final interview and offer, anchor the conversation on scope and stack rather than a marginal salary bump, and make sure your offer lands within the bands above — a below-band offer is an invitation for the current employer to win.

Know where candidates actually come from. Very few people carry the "GTM Engineer" title yet, so the strongest searches target adjacent profiles: RevOps analysts who have upskilled into Python and dbt, sales engineers with genuine build experience looking for a more technical seat, and data engineers who want to move closer to the commercial side of the business. Each background has a different gap — business context, engineering rigour, or GTM process knowledge — and your onboarding should be tailored accordingly.

Retention is about roadmap, not just money. GTM Engineers leave when the interesting build work runs out and the role collapses into ticket-taking for the sales team. The companies that keep these hires give them a genuine engineering backlog, protected build time, and a path towards a GTM Engineering Lead role as the function grows.

BisonRS has been recruiting Revenue Operations talent since 2021 — more than 200 placements across 12 European countries, drawing on a network of over 15,000 RevOps professionals. Every search is run personally by our founder, with shortlists delivered within two weeks, and GTM Engineering is now one of the fastest-growing parts of our work.
